Ink Dot Dissociation Technique Performance Tutorial

The above ink dot dissociation effect is very cool, and actually to produce the effect is not as complicated as you imagine. Its biggest breakthrough lies in- the mask layer! How to do it? Follow me step by step to achieve it. Click here to download the material file.

For the linear dissociation, it is OK as long as you use “the smudge tool” to drag out the line you want on the basis of ink dot.

1. Open the file material; cut out the shoes with a pen; create a new 1600 * 1200 document and put the shoes in the middle; name it as “shoe” as shown in the figure.

2. Pile up the ink dot in the middle of shoes; the modeling should spread out to both sides from dense to loose as far as possible, as shown in the figure.

3. Merge all of the ink dots and name the layer as “ink dot”; hide the layer’s visibility; hold down CTRL while clicking the “ink dot” layer, in order to get the ink dot selection area.

4. Switch to the “shoe” layer; click the button to “add vector mask” on the layers panel as shown in the figure.

5. Adjust: shoes top is not the part where we want to get the dissociation effect; use “elliptical selection tool” to circle the dissociation part of the top of the shoes; fill “white” in “vector mask area” of the “shoe” layer, so that the top of the shoe is intact as shown in the figure.

6. Fill the “background” layer to be black; make the ink points diffusion effect in the back part of the shoes:
A. Observation: before production, pay attention to what colors are involved in the diffusion part of the subject; here we can clearly see the diffused colors include red, white and grey, so when making the ink dot diffusion effect, give the three color the priority, so that it is conducive to better reflect natural degree.
B. Start: red—- take out the ink dot in ink material; adjust it to the appropriate size and place it above the red part of the top of the shoes; hide the layer’s visibility; use the above method of step 3 to get the ink point selection area; switch to the shoe layer and press CTRL + J – according to the shape of the ink dot, copy the red ink; move it to the shoes’ upper right, as a kind of ink extension effect; for the white ink dot, directly use “inverse CTRL + L” for the material; for grey ink dot, use the “straw” to draw color values in the grey part on the shoes to fill again.

7. According to the method of the previous step to produce the whole dissociated ink dots; pay attention to the ink dot’s size and level; bear in mind the spread direction and scope of the ink point; handle it more naturally as far as possible; don’t be too deliberately.

8. Polish: it is a very important link; the crushing effect brings severe and unrest feeling; in order to coordinate the effect and make the work more coordinated, we stretch the color gradation to produce the contrast, but the red saturation would be too rich; use CTRL + U to reduce the saturation and then use color balance to make it more blue; show the simple sense of shoes better; at last, list the theme and leave the background for everyone to play in a free style.
